June 3

Wow it is approaching fast! 8 days!

From the Prayer Calendar: Jan Schuler - Pray for peace, wisdom and understanding. May God’s love be a banner over Jan. Romans 8:6 “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” As Pam has been writing to us “Pray without ceasing” – 1 Thessalonians 5:17. This is really the only way to be “governed by the Spirit” which leads to peace; pray – Spirit – peace; no pray – flesh – death. Seems easy…but then why do we struggle to pray even for 30 minutes in the morning let alone without ceasing? I think it is a matter of habit.

I know some of you attended the Fellowship School Eternity Banquet in 2009 – the guest speaker was Jerry Jenkins. Jerry has written many biographies including books on Brett Butler, Nolan Ryan, and Orel Hershiser. You may remember one story Jerry told at the banquet regarding his work with Billy Graham on his memoirs. Jerry’s story – a conversation between he and Billy – went something like this:

Jerry: “Do you ever miss a day of praying?”

Billy: “What do you mean.”

Jerry: “I mean does a day ever go by and you missed your quiet time with the Lord?”

Billy: “No, I talk with God all day, everyday – I am talking with Him right now as I am talking with you.”

This really hit me hard – that is probably why Billy Graham is Billy Graham – he actually prays without ceasing and as a result he has made a bigger impact on the world than maybe anyone other individual. Imagine how different our lives would be if we prayed without ceasing. I don’t know if any of us would be a Billy Graham but we would certainly be different. Pray – Spirit – Peace; a whole different meaning to PSP.

Have a great night!
