May 27
Prayer calendar from May 27 – Ruth Kennedy: Pray that Ruth will remember that God is her refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble—so she should not fear over any detail, and she can claim the rest that God longs to give those who love Him. Psalm 46:1-2 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea…” The part of this passage that stands out for me is “an ever-present help.” I have shared with some of you that last year I really did not want to go to Guatemala (it was my first mission trip) but God made it very clear that I should go. I did not go with a great attitude “okay God I will go but I won’t like it.” I will do my duty, check off the box and then move on. What I didn’t expect was that trip was a total blessing. For me the reason the trip was a total blessing was not necessarily the opportunity to serve but because of communing with God for 7, 8, 10, 12 hours a day. The part of this passage – “an ever-present help” – while so true I don’t always take advantage of because I don’t always focus on God enough during the busy, normal day. Even if I pray in the morning I still don’t always reach out to His ever-present help – I get impatient with the kids or frustrated at the traffic. How do we better focus on God throughout the day so we can tap into His ever-present help?
